Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do you offer consultations before colour services?
Yes. We highly recommend a consultation before any major colour change, colour correction service or if your new. This allows our stylists to assess your hair, discuss your goals, and create a personalised plan for the healthiest results.
-
What should I do before my hair appointment?
Arriving with clean, dry hair and bring some inspiration images along with you can be helpful to understand your hair goals.
-
Is balayage a low-maintenance colour option?
Balayage is ideal for those seeking a softer, lived-in result with less regrowth. Our team designs each balayage to grow out beautifully while maintaining brightness and dimension between visits.
-
What is the difference between a gloss and a toner?
A toner and a gloss are both professional colour services designed to refine and enhance your hair colour, but they serve slightly different purposes.
A toner is used to correct or neutralise unwanted tones in the hair, such as brassiness or yellow warmth after lightening. It helps create a cleaner, more balanced blonde or brunette result and is an essential step in most blonde and balayage services.
A gloss, on the other hand, focuses on enhancing shine and refreshing colour. It adds subtle tone, boosts luminosity and leaves the hair feeling soft and healthy. A gloss is ideal for reviving faded colour, adding richness to brunettes, or refreshing blondes between full colour appointments.
In short:
Toner = tone correction and balance
Gloss = shine, softness and colour refresh
Both services are gentle and conditioning, and your stylist will recommend the best option based on your hair’s current tone, condition and your desired finish.
-
How long does a gloss or toner last?
A gloss or toner typically lasts between 2–4 weeks depending on your hair type, home care routine and frequency of washing. Using colour pacific shampoo & Conditioner like Muk Vivid will help protect and extend the life of your colour.

What is the difference between a keratin smoothing treatment and chemical straightening?
Keratin smoothing treatments and chemical straightening treatments are often confused, but they are very different services with very different effects on hair health.
A keratin smoothing treatment is designed to reduce frizz, improve manageability and enhance shine while maintaining the hair’s natural movement and texture. It works by infusing the hair with conditioning proteins that smooth the cuticle and strengthen the hair fibre. The result is softer, glossier, more manageable hair — not permanently straight hair.
A chemical straightening treatment, however, permanently alters the internal structure of the hair to make it straight. While this can create very straight results, it can also be extremely drying and damaging, particularly for coloured, lightened or fragile hair. Over time, chemical straightening can lead to breakage, brittleness and loss of hair integrity.
At Concept Hair Design, we do not offer chemical straightening treatments.
We believe in protecting the long-term health of your hair and only provide services that support strength, condition and natural beauty. Chemical straightening treatments can compromise the hair’s structure and are not aligned with our commitment to healthy, sustainable hair care.
Instead, we offer keratin smoothing treatments as a gentler, conditioning alternative for clients wanting:
- Reduced frizz
- Improved manageability
- Enhanced shine
- Softer, healthier-feeling hair
Our approach focuses on hair that looks and feels beautiful — not hair that has been permanently altered at the expense of its health.
-
How long does a keratin smoothing treatment last?
A keratin smoothing treatment typically lasts between 3 to 5 months, depending on your hair type, lifestyle and home care routine.
Longevity is influenced by:
- How often you wash your hair
- The products you use at home
- Exposure to heat, sun and swimming
- Your natural hair texture
To maintain your results for as long as possible, we recommend using sulphate-free, salon-quality products and following your stylist’s personalised aftercare advice.
A keratin treatment gradually fades out over time, leaving your hair feeling softer, smoother and more manageable without harsh regrowth lines or damage.

Lamination (Glass Hair) Treatment vs Bond Repair Treatments
Lamination (often called a Glass Hair Treatment) and bond repair treatments both improve the look and feel of the hair, but they work in very different ways and are designed for different needs.
Lamination / Glass Hair Treatment (milkshake insta.lite shine)
A lamination or glass hair treatment focuses on the outside of the hair.
It smooths and seals the cuticle, creating an ultra-glossy, reflective finish that makes the hair appear healthier, softer and more luminous.
The milkshake insta.lite shine treatment is ideal for:
- Enhancing shine
- Reducing surface frizz
- Creating a smooth, silky feel
- Refreshing dull or faded hair
- Giving a polished “glass hair” result
This treatment is cosmetic and conditioning rather than reparative. It is perfect for clients wanting instant shine and smoothness before events or between colour appointments.
Bond Repair Treatment (Muk Bond Restore Pro System)
Bond repair treatments work inside the hair fibre.
They rebuild and strengthen the internal bonds that can be broken through colouring, lightening, heat styling and environmental stress.
The Muk Bond Restore Pro System is designed to:
- Repair and strengthen damaged hair
- Improve elasticity and resilience
- Reduce breakage
- Support long-term hair health
- Prepare hair for future colour services
This treatment is best for clients with chemically treated, lightened or fragile hair who need structural repair rather than just surface shine.
